The Heart of the Gospel in Matters of the Heart

A 75 min presentation on how Jesus' unique message informs our love life (and really, life is all about love!)

Download 3 medium resolution wmv files below - or email Pastor Torgerson for a DVD.

The Problem (Part 1) - "God is love", yet Christians address relationship problems as if "God is law".   Equally bad, Christians think the Bible is a rule book.

The Proclamation (Part 2) - What is the message that Jesus brought?

The Product (Part 3) - Jesus' unique message and His presence shows us how to love in every situation.

Being the Peace That We Want for the World - Quoting Isaiah 59:8, Paul tells the Romans, "The way of peace they do not know." (Rom 3:17)   Nothing much has changed since in the approximately 2700 years since Isaiah wrote those words.   It's even hard to make a case that Christians know the way to peace.  What if I told you that there is a prayer that Jesus promised to answer affirmatively that would guarantee that Jesus' followers can contribute to family, community, and world peace?  Would you pray that prayer?

The Parable of The Blind Side - Michael Oher's makeover is a pattern for what God is doing with humanity.

Getting From Good Friday to Easter - I am a science teacher at heart, and I like to show people that the stuff I teach is real.   We say Jesus died for our sins, but what does that really have to do with life?  We say with Paul, "Believe in Jesus and you will be saved."  But what does believing in Jesus have to do with living life today?

Believe - Believing in Jesus gives us real life.   Believing involves giving up what we think is real and living in the realty that Jesus presents to us.

Is the Bible a Rule Book for Living?

The Bible has been called a  "rule book for living"?   Others are concerned about whether a church believes the Bible is "literal", "inerrant", or "inspired".   People often argue over the exact meaning of these terms.

Preach the Word - a short article - It doesn't mean preach the Bible!

We Value

  • the Gospel of Jesus Christ as being central in teaching and in living life.

  • scripture as the authority for revealing God and His will.

  • our history of joyful fellowship.

  • our history of desiring Christianity to be a way of life.

  • the freedom to cooperate with, learn from, and worship with Christians outside our denomination.

  • our local church as the vehicle for corporately doing God's work.

  • our journey of coming to grace and truth.

  • the historic Christian doctrines expressed in the Apostles' Creed.

We believe…

  • In one holy, loving, all-powerful, and gracious Creator God who exists in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

  • That the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, fully authoritative for all matters of faith and practice. · That Jesus Christ, born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully human, is both Lord and Savior.

  • That Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross for human sin, that he was raised bodily on the third day, and that he ascended to heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.

  • That Jesus Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead and to reign over all things.

  • In the Holy Spirit, who brings sinners to repentance, who gives eternal life to believers, and who lives in them to conform them to the image of Jesus Christ.

  • That Christians should gather in regular fellowship and live lives of faith that make evident the good news that humans enter the kingdom of God by putting their trust in Jesus Christ.

  • In the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • That salvation comes not by works, but only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • In the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
